I fished with the father and son duo of Mark and Ryan for there first trip on Lake Okeechobee on 6/17/13. Both are avid anglers who have caught lot’s of fish up north but being on vacation down in Florida they had to make a visit to Lake Okeechobee. We started the day off throwing some top-water and spinnerbaits and caught a few fish but a little slower then it has been. Switched gears to a little senko fishing once the sun got up and found success slowing things down.

Throughout the morning we caught around 20 fish with a decent average of about 3lbs with the biggest being 4 lbs, until…… I told Ryan one more cast and as I seen the fish roll when Ryan set the hook I couldn’t help but smile and say that’s what we’ve been looking for. After getting a few pictures of the fish Mark and myself took some measurements and released this Lake Okeechobee beauty back into the open water.

Although somewhat of a slow day we still managed to catch 25 fish on artificial and ended the day with a big bucketmouth. Lake Okeechobee is really fishing good right now and if you have ever wanted to catch some really nice largemouth now is the time to do it.
