What a great last two days on Lake Okeechobee. I had the pleasure of fishing with two different great families both of which were first timers to Lake Okeechobee and both will be back again.

On July 3 I fished with the Kaus family from Boca Raton, FL. Dale, Taylor, and Tyler all truly enjoyed the natural wildlife Lake Okeechobee has to offer and especially the occasional manatee which is truly a sight to see. Tyler (7 years old) had never caught a bass before and I think we might have spoiled him as his first fish of the day was a little over 4 lbs and he ended up catching several other fish in the 4- 5 lb range including a really nice fish that was just shy of 7 lbs. A great day with a great family that we even got Taylor (claims she doesn’t fish) into the action because a rod went down while everyone else was catching fish, so by the process of elimination she had to catch one and she did a great job. Looking forward to getting this family back on the lake many more times.

On July 4 I fished with father and son duo of Randy and Jacob Foust. These Texans ended there first trip to Lake Okeechobee the right way as Jacob landed a nice 5 lb fish on artificial on the last cast of the day. We caught fish a number of different ways including rattle traps, senkos, skinny dippers, big e-zs, 10″ worm, and even a crankbait. Great day with a super nice family that was a pleasure to take out.

All in all July is off to a great start and the coming days and months look promising as the lake has plenty of water and should fish great throughout the summer. Check out some pictures below of the recent trips.
